Organised by the Living Wage Foundation, the awards celebrate individuals and organisations that have made outstanding contributions to the Living Wage movement.

Julia Tarpey is the HR Director at Unity. She has been shortlisted in the Industry Trailblazer category. This recognises those who have shown exceptional leadership by promoting the Living Wage in their industry and supply chain.

Julia has championed the Living Wage cause for nearly 10 years and facilitated official accreditation for a previous employer before joining Unity in 2015.

Unity, which is headquartered in Birmingham, was the first bank to become a Living Wage Employer in 2013. Julia has built on that momentum by introducing new best practices and awareness initiatives.

Her commitment to the cause went a step further in 2021 when Julia joined Birmingham City Council’s campaign. She helped Birmingham become a Living Wage City – an accolade it achieved last year.

Deborah Hazell is the CEO at Unity Trust Bank. She said: “As an ethical bank we are proud of our status as a Living Wage Employer. We are delighted to have been shortlisted for this prestigious award.

“Julia’s passion and commitment in supporting and promoting the Living Wage movement, both at Unity and in the wider Greater Birmingham area, has had a huge impact. The Living Wage aligns with Unity’s values as a responsible employer and it’s wonderful to be recognised in this way.”

The winners of all 14 categories will be announced a gala dinner at the National Football Museum. It will take place in Manchester on Thursday, July 6.
