Unity Trust Bank delivers internal programme for Mental Health Awareness Week 2021

Published: May 10, 2021

Mental Health Awareness Week 2021 gets under way today! To celebrate, Unity Trust Bank has kick-started a programme of events to support the week-long campaign.

Mental Health Awareness Week 2021

There will be a personal message from CEO Margaret Willis at the start of Mental Health Awareness Week 2021. Colleagues will hear from key business champions about why mental health is important in the workplace.

Unity Trust Bank will also promote the benefits of being outdoors to coincide with this year’s theme of nature. Research carried out by the Mental Health Foundation revealed that going outside during the pandemic had a positive effect on people’s mental health.

There will be resources on how to support colleagues with mental health problems as well as managing your own feelings and top tips on how to make time for yourself. Our 101-strong workforce will also receive a Wellness Box – a package of self-care treats from ethical supplier Wellbox to help people relax and unwind.

Message from Julia Tarpey

HR Director Julia Tarpey said: “We wanted to show our colleagues know how much they are appreciated and chose Wellbox because they share our values in promoting positive mental health and social good. For every gift purchased, they will donate £1 to Mind on our behalf.”

In 2019 Unity signed the Department of Health’s Time To Change Employer Pledge which aims to support those who suffer from mental health illnesses in the workplace. Unity appointed two Mental Health First Aiders and created a Wellness Action Plan for line managers to identify and manage work-related stress.

Julia added: “These actions promote an open and trusting culture where people feel comfortable openly talking about their mental health and line managers understand better how to support their teams.”

Unity Trust Bank’s core purpose is to help create a better society, and this is embedded within its practises, framework reporting and communication channels. For more information about who we are and how we help bring our vision to life, please visit: https://www.unity.co.uk/who-we-are/
